Syllabus
COURSE SYLLABUS
1. Fundamentals of human nutrition, with a special emphasis placed on physical exercise and sport:
Digestive system and metabolism of macro- and micronutrients Nutrition and effects on the neuroendocrine system Nutrition, immunological response and physical performance
2. Natural aids to optimize health and performance:
Nutraceuticals: definition and integration into a functional diet Description and classification of natural aids Description, use and application of the most commonly used supplements in health and sports performance (proteins, amino acids, creatine, camitine, acetyl-L-camitine, essential grade acids, etc.) Use of carbohydrates to improve health and performance. Sports drinks Stimulant substances, patches, ergogenic aids for special situations (heat, humidity, altitude)
3. Special considerations energy balance and disbalance related to age, gender, and disability. Pathology and pathophysiology of illness, as they relate to exercise Effects of disease, e.g., diabetes, cardiac conditions, arthritis on exercise and the use of exercise in the care of medical problems
4. Growth and development related to exercise and diet Pregnancy and Exercise and energetic balance. Elite athletes triad: eating disorders, (anorexia and bulimia), amenorrhea, osteoporosis (stress fractures) prevention and treatment approaches.
5. Heat shock, overheating, dehydration, maintenance and support of normal status of hydration. Hazard and danger in case of excess water intake. Causes of hyponatremia, nutrition and exercise in extreme conditions. Natural aid for health and physical status optimization, stimulating substances, applications, ergogenic aid, which are used in special cases (extreme heat, high humidity, high atmospheric pressure).
6. Ethical principles as applied to exercise and sports Medical-legal aspects of exercise and sports Recent advances in doping control techniques among athletes Laboratory diagnostic and visual imaging for the assessment of physical condition.
